ADU regulations in Massachusetts aren’t one-size-fits-all. Every city and town has its own zoning bylaws, permit process, fee schedule, setback requirements, and overlay district restrictions — meaning what’s allowed by right in Plymouth may require a special permit in Abington, and a lot that qualifies in one town may not qualify in the next.
